Beep! A small instance themed around synths, but accepts all. Not to be confused with our Iceshrimp instance.

Instance information

This is our Sharkey instance, managed by @sneexy. This is our general information page about our instance, most info here is shared with our Iceshrimp instance.

Sharkey is a "microblogging"-based social networking software that connects over ActivityPub to federate over the internet with other AP-based software and instances in the world such as Mastodon. Sharkey itself is a soft-fork of Misskey, so you recieve all of the features Misskey has, such as quote posts and emoji reactions, with extra features and fixes Sharkey puts on top.

We have a sibling Iceshrimp instance running over at beeping.synth.download if a more "traditional", Mastodon-compatible based experience is more your speed.

This instance is invite only to ensure that things don't get out of control here, in terms of both becoming a moderation hassle and requiring heavy maintenance, as well as ensuring this instance continues to run smoothly and for the foreseeable future.

If you would like to register, and are a well-known creature of, please go beep at @sneexy! You may also ask anyone else on this instance to vouch for you. Invite codes/Acceptance is not always guaranteed, but feel free to ask. Please don't let this be discouragement for asking.

We have a Signal group chat for general, random discussion as well as having direct contact with instance admins, and to serve as a place for any direct or maintenance announcements.

For the record: We are running stock, upstream Sharkey. We are not running/maintaining a fork! Any and all modifications and shenanigans we do on here are either served through our reverse proxy or done via Sharkey's customHtml configuration and custom CSS.

Features

What users receive in terms of differences from, for example here, the average Mastodon instance:

All of the average Misskey features: cat ears/speaking as a cat, "Drive" management for files, etc.
100,000 character limit, with a 5,000 content warning character limit
20 gigabyte drive space per user (can be increased if needed)

Rules

Our rules are also displayed on our instance registration page. These rules also apply to remote instances/federation. If any are found breaking these rules that aren't on our instance, report it.

No Nazi's, racism, homo/trans/queerphobia or bigotry of any kind. Hate speech is not allowed.
In addition to above, no pedophilia, zoophilia and all other related labels/content. We have no tolerance for that at all.
No illegal content such as child pornography or any (including fictional) equivalents (e.g. lolishota).
Properly use content warnings when posting. Apply a content warning to anything, such as NSFW content and politics. Reclaimed slurs may be left without a content warning.
Don't harass people if there is no valid reason, block/report and move on.
We encourage adding alt text onto media. Not required, but recommended.
Basically: Just use common sense. And don't give me any reason to add more rules onto here, please.

Our instance is configured with a curated timeline of hand-picked instances that we deem to be a part of community of, or are great friends. Below is the entire list of of all instances configured in our Bubble timeline.

Moderation

For all of our Fediverse instances that we manage, we do moderation on our own.

We have little spoons to deal with anything and tend to take action swiftly. We moderate based on the usual:

Suspending instances that consists of having communities/a majority of users who are either entirely horrible users or heavily radiates "Bad Vibes", including those that includes users who own opinions that we don't all necessarily agree with or could cause harm to others
Suspending instances that purposefully modifies federation in malicious ways (e.g. ignoring deletes, converting non-public posts to public on their end)
Suspending instances that have "the obvious"; anything that goes against our own rules
Silencing or marking instances as NSFW that don't have rules set on marking content properly (e.g. politics or NSFW media)

We may also Suspend those that simply federate with related instances as it's too much of a risk to continue federation with those suspected of unwanted/problematic behavior, especially if it's very obvious

Silencing or marking instances as NSFW that consists of heavy amounts (and to "Only") of "Irony-poisoned" or "racism funny" posting.

Other instances that aren't inherently bad, but also constantly consists of any type of behavior that isn't worth full blown suspension will usually have other actions done to them as well (marked as NSFW, Silenced, etc.).

If you'd like to question anything about our moderation or about a specific instance, feel free to ask us about it. If you find something that goes against our rules or should have action taken against, then report it (whether it's local or remote content).
